About

The silent gardens, Dzogchen Beara, Co. Cork, Ireland.

Oh hello!

My name is Deirdre,
nice to meet you.

Originally from the Beara Peninsula, West Cork, Ireland.
I am an artist/designer with a focus on UX and UI.

Since I can remember, I have always loved art. It was the only thing I was good at in school. The Beara peninsula is situated in the south-west of Ireland. Many artists, poets and writers come from all over the world to get inspiration from the rugged coastline. I was (still am) heavily influenced by local artists such as Charles Tyrell and Cormac Boydel. As a child, I spent my summers attending our local art school.

The school was started by a Irish-Canadian artist, who also goes by the name of Deirdre. She brought her big personality and Canadian heart to our little village and transformed old walls and buildings into beautiful, vibrant spaces. Deirdre was fun, kind and talented. She would take us on outings to sketch fields, ring forts, the sea and all kinds of magic. My eyes were opened to the beauty of art in Irish nature. Without the art school and Deirdre, I might never have pursued a creative career.

Fast forward twenty years later, I am now living in Vancouver. I completed a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications at Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland and continued my study at Red Academy, Vancouver by taking the UX Design program. Fascinated by app and web design, I have moved into the digital realm.

UX interests me as it beckons you to holistically approach the design process by validating every step of the way. Which I had never thought about before? Backing up your design decisions with real data, how wonderful!

A visual person, I am constantly doodling and coming up with ideas. I have been told that I am an infectiously happy person. Making someone else happy can now be turned into making many people happy through my work. Whether it’s a little interaction or the first glimpse of a page. Something they had envisioned has come to life.

My journey through design today continues. I’m constantly wanting to grow and explore new areas that take my interest. Currently, I’m trying my hand at Cinema 4D and video editing in my spare time.

If you have made it this far, thank you. I look forward to hearing from you.
